Job Description

Activities and Responsibilities:

· Welcome and encourage interested inquirers with a well-developed and responsive ministry of formation that leads to the sacraments of initiation into a full Catholic life. 

· Nurture and direct those who assume roles required for Christian Initiation (Catechists, Sponsors, Godparents, Team Members). 

· Plan liturgies for the various stages of the Catechesis.

· Communicates with inquirers, team, office manager, and parish priest. 

· Provide leadership and direction to team. 

· Recruit and motivate team members. 

· Provide pastoral care through spiritual guidance, genuine attention to their personal needs, and helpful resources to all team members. 

· Coordinate with music ministry to plan music for liturgies. 

· Responsible for the Liturgical Rites that are part of the various stages of the OCIA process. 

· Weekly attendance at mass during the Inquiry Stage. 

· Weekly attendance at mass with candidates. 

· Ensure that a prayerful spirit prevails throughout the initiation process. 

· Interview prospective candidates/team members and monitor formation of same. 

· Organize team meetings when necessary.

This position may also be responsible for infant baptism, marriage preparation, and annulments; and may be required to take Kino Institute courses offered through the Diocese of Phoenix for these functions. 

General Responsibilities of Baptism Coordinator:

•Maintains communication with Pastor for ministry needs and direction of program. 

•Ensures baptism prep classes and baptism dates and times are on the parish calendar. 

•Hosts baptism preparation sessions and rehearsals (as needed) for parents and godparents. 

•Works with Sacramental office to maintain updated participant baptismal records including gathering necessary paper work needed for baptism from parents and godparents. 

•Responds to inquiries from prospective families (verbal, email, telephone, and text). 

•Provide packet of all necessary forms to family that are required for the Baptism. 

•Ensures all forms are returned and complete before the date of the Baptism.

General Responsibilities of the Marriage Coordinator:

•Oversees and provides marriage prep for engaged couples and coordinates rehearsal & wedding dates. 

•Manages program for marriage preparation consistent with Diocese of Phoenix policies. 

•Serves as the initial contact for couples seeking marriage in the Catholic Church. 

•Maintains and is responsible for all marriage related paperwork. 

•Processes marriage packets for couples marrying outside of this parish. 

•Coordinates with Natural Family Planning groups to enroll interested couples. 

•Serves as the initial contact for parishioners seeking information about annulments. 

•Tracks progress of annulments. 

•Verifies wedding date with clergy and coordinators of Liturgy & Music. 

•Reserves church facilities for weddings and wedding rehearsals. 

•Recruits priest, sacristan, altar servers, and music to assist at wedding events at the parish. 

•Assist in-person with rehearsals and weddings, as needed. 

•Participate in all relevant Diocesan training and meetings. 

Skills/Qualifications:  

•Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access). 

•Ability to perform physical tasks associated with job. 

•Ability to work cohesively with staff, volunteers, and parish community. 

•Ability to always maintain confidentiality and professionalism. 

•Available for evening and weekend work as needed. 

•Practicing Catholic with an understanding of Catholic Sacraments and Catholic teachings. 

•Adherence to Diocese of Phoenix Ethical and Personal Conduct Policies. 

•Favorable background check.
